The 2008 College World Series was an offensive showcase for amateur baseball. The eight teams combined to set a new record for hits with 341 and batted .303 in Omaha - only the fifth time in CWS history the field has hit over .300. Yet during a week when the ball was being tattooed more than Kat Von D, Fresno State hurler Justin Wilson came through marvelously to help lead the Bulldogs to the title. The Clovis, California lefty went 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA in three starts during the series. His twenty strikeouts and 20.1 innings both led all CWS pitchers and the eight frames he pitched against Georgia in the deciding game three win were the longest outing by a pitcher in the CWS. In the final Wilson scattered five hits over eight innings, tossing seven shutout innings before allowing a solo homer to final NCAA leader in homeruns, Gordon Beckham in the eighth. He only walked a single batter in the game while striking out nine to pick up the victory.
