Well, we were kinda right... Ping! predicted that the NCAA National Champion would be whoever won "Game 8" on Tuesday June 8th (winner of Rice/Fresno State against the LSU/North Carolina winner). Admittedly, Fresno State was the most unlikely of the quartet to win the game (we were going with UNC), but the Bulldogs prevailed and won the contest on the way to the title.

Fresno State outfielder Steve Detwiler put on a one-man show, driving in all six Fresno State runs as the Bulldogs completed their improbable run to the title and defeated Georgia in the deciding game of the NCAA Division I Baseball National Championship, 6-1.

Not only did the "WonderDogs" win the schools first-ever baseball championship but were also the first regional four-seed to win a national championship since the bracket expanded to 64 teams in 1999. During their to the title run, FS beat the number two national seed North Carolina (twice), the number three national seed Arizona State (twice), the number six national seed Rice (once) and the number eight national seed Georgia (twice).
