Elon
infielder Greg Annarummo
spent a day last week blistering horsehide
like it said something bad about his mama. The freshman
from Bristol, Rhode Island belted three home runs
and drove in 10 runs to lead the Elon Phoenix to a
19-10 rout of the visiting Wake Forest Demon Deacons
last week. Annarummo started the contest by launching
a bomb into the trees in left-center for his first
career grand slam in the first inning. In the second
frame, Annarummo blasted his second long ball of the
night, driving in two more runs. A hard hit double
to the gap in left to scored another in the third
and Annarummo drove in his eighth, ninth and 10th
RBI of the game with a three-run homer to left-center
in the seventh inning. Annarummo needed a solo home
run for the home run cycle - a solo, two-run, three-run
and grand slam in one game.

Much like when Bret Michaels chose Ambre over Daisy
in the "Rock of Love 2" season finale, selecting
Iona pitcher Bobby DiNuzzo was an easy
decision. The senior from Stony Point, New York tossed
a complete-game, two hitter in the Gaels' 3-2 win over
Fairfield on last week. The righty struck out a career-best
12 batters, and did not allow a single earned run. After
the Fairfield plated two unearned runs in the top of
the third, an unfazed DiNuzzo came back to retire the
next ten straight Stags in order before allowing an
infield hit in the seventh. During the stretch, DiNuzzo
struck out seven, including fanning four straight at
one point.

With the Tampa Spartans' lopsided success over the
past few seasons, its hard to root for them to do
well - it's kinda like cheering on the 1980 Soviet
Summer Olympics Teams, Darth Varder or the IRS. However
one can't do anything but congratulate Spartan first
baseman Jose Jimenez who led Tampa
to 16-2 victory over Rollins College with a 4-6 game,
which including a career-high three home runs and
10 RBI to raise his season batting average to .292.

The
players from Brevard College would have had better luck
getting reclusive author J.D. Salinger to be a guest
speaker for their English composition class than getting
a hit from emerging Erskine ace Erick Guest
last week. The freshman from Easley, South Carolina
picked up his first collegiate victory, pitching a complete
game no hitter in the final game of a three game series
against the Tornados. The win helped the Flying Fleet
sweep the series and also established a new school record
for most wins in a season.
