Hard
hats should be worn around Rice junior Jared
Gayhart as he was a one man wrecking crew
in Sunday's pivotal game against Creighton. The versatile
outfielder/pitcher took to the mound in relief and
was able to induce an inning-ending double play as
a pitcher in the top of the eighth inning to thwart
the Bluejay attack and keep the Owls within striking
distance. Then in the bottom of the inning he knocked
in an RBI double to give Rice the come from behind
lead. In the ninth, Gayhart slammed the door with
authority, striking out the side to earn his second
win of the season. Offensively he finished the afternoon
with a pair of hits, three RBI and the win.

The
Coastal Carolina Chants are on the cusp of a top ten
rankings thanks to their slugging catcher Dock
Doyle. The hometown senior batted .500 (8-16)
in four wins last week for Coastal, belting three home
runs and driving in 10 for the week. He started the
week by going 2-3 with two homeruns and four RBI in
a 13-6 win over Toledo. In two weekend games against
Ball State he went 5-9 with six RBI and a homerun in
each game. His two-run double in the eighth inning of
Sunday's contest brought home the game-winning runs.
To top things off Doyle threw out two-of-three runners
trying to steal.
